KC Clay Guild

Kansas City, MO

This hands-on surface decorating workshop will explore using screen-printing techniques, stencils, and transfers with underglaze in the leather hard stage. We will practice complicating the surface and building layers of information. Focusing on expanding our visual vocabulary and creating custom color palettes will allow us to produce work with dynamic, complex surfaces. We will be using mid-range clay, but these methods and techniques apply to all types of clays and firing temperatures.

Dynamic Decorating with Meredith Host: 2 Day Hands-On Surface Decorating Workshop.

Meredith is an icon in eye-popping contemporary tableware and textiles with retro vibes. She obsesses about ubiquitous domestic patterns subtly quilted on the paper products we use and throw away every day, then reinterprets them in the context of other domestic objects meant for daily use. You're invited to learn her transfer and decorating techniques in this two-day workshop! Participants will be provided with 2-3 leather hard blanks to work on. Underglazes provided. Firing finished items ala cart. Participants will provide their own sack lunch. May 16 & 17, 9 am - 3 pm both days.
